AMY BRADBURY   cuts/styling/braiding/weddings/master barber

Having spent the majority of her career tending uptown tresses at Frederick Fekkai, “I was looking for something closer to home, and with a different clientele…as well as smaller, more intimate environment,” says Amy of her move to Kennaland.

Originally from Saratoga Springs in upstate New York, she tried her hand at hairdressing straight out of high school, cutting her friends’ hair and loving it. Having learned the basics on the job at Fekkai, she’s since progressed rapidly, assisting some of the biggest names in hairdressing at New York Fashion Week, while also working on her own styling book.

Adept at creating all kinds of looks, “I will encourage my clients to try something new, but never force.” Including her boss. Not that cutting Kenna’s hair is too daunting a task – “he’s not too fussy, and he always wears a hat anyways!”

And if her Brooklyn cliental still come in wanting the big uptown blow-outs sometimes, that’s fine with Amy too.

In Greenpoint: “The Bounty on Greenpoint Avenue does great cocktails and dollar oysters. I love it when they open their backyard in the summer.”

KENNA KENNOR   cuts/styling/master barber/wig maker

Main man Kenna opened his first studio in London in 2009, an appointment-only “anti-salon” above a traditional pub in the East End. Based between London and Greenpoint since 2011, he opened the Brooklyn studio to replicate this laid back vibe, while the space doubles as a creative atelier for his work in the creative industries.

Having cut his first head of hair “assisting” his then girlfriend when he spent a summer on the Spanish island of Ibiza aged 19, Kenna felt an instant affinity with the trade and went on to train as a wigmaker in London before fully qualifying as a hairdresser .

His career has since seen him work in numerous salons, as well as establish a huge name for himself as an internationally recognised session stylist. Working on countless magazine and ad campaigns, and a backstage fixture at fashion weeks in New York, Paris, London and Milan, he is also named as Creative Director for ghd.

Meanwhile, “As a session stylist, if you’re sensible you’ll always hold onto a handful of studio clients to keep you sane, and I needed a space to do that,” he says. Even if fitting his private clients around his international schedule can mean, “I’m often cutting hair at 10pm.”
